CARE GUIDE

Caring for Your A&H Bag

Most A&H bags are handcrafted with commercially-available yarn (usually T-shirt yarn). A smaller number of One of a Kind pieces are made differently — hand-cut from real, curated textile and hand-spun into our own yarn. The care below applies either way, with a couple of notes called out specifically for the One of a Kind pieces.

What's the difference between a standard bag and a One of a Kind piece?

Most of our catalog is handcrafted with commercially-available yarn (usually T-shirt yarn) in consistent colors. Our One of a Kind pieces are different — cut by hand from real, curated textile and hand-spun into our own yarn, which is why no two of those are ever quite alike. Check the product page for a "One of a Kind" or "Upcycled Materials" badge to know which you have.

How do I clean my crochet bag?

Hand wash gently in cold water with a mild detergent. Never submerge the metal hardware — spot clean those areas with a damp cloth instead. Avoid wringing; press out excess water gently.

How do I dry it?

Reshape the bag by hand while it's still damp, then lay it flat to air dry, away from direct sun and away from a heat source. Keep the hardware dry throughout — trapped moisture is what causes rust, not the fabric itself. Never hang it to dry; the wet weight will stretch the stitching out of shape.

How do I store it when I'm not using it?

Stuff the body loosely with acid-free tissue paper (or a spare t-shirt) to help it hold its shape, and keep it out of direct sunlight — natural, dyed textile can fade with prolonged UV exposure. A breathable dust bag or pillowcase is better than a sealed plastic bag, which traps moisture against the fibers.

How do I care for the hardware?

Keep gold- and silver-tone hardware away from perfume, lotion, and standing water — a soft, dry cloth is usually enough to keep it looking new. Don't use metal polish or harsh chemical cleaners; they can strip the plating.

Is a handmade crochet bag durable enough for everyday use?

Yes — treat it like the handmade piece it is, not like a mass-produced synthetic bag. Whether it's our usual T-shirt yarn or a hand-spun One of a Kind piece, a sharp snag can still catch a loop the way any knit or crochet fabric can. Avoid rough surfaces and check the strap attachment points occasionally, the same way you would with any well-loved bag.

Why does my bag look slightly different from the product photo?

For our One of a Kind pieces, small variation is expected — since those are cut from real textile rather than consistent yarn, the exact placement of a pattern or color can differ slightly from the photo to the piece you receive. That's the handmade part, not a defect. Our standard styles use consistent yarn, so they match the photos closely.
